ëLove Is Hellí LP Released Today

Published: 2004-05-04
Initially released as two separate EPs, 'Love is Hell, pt.1' and 'Love is Hell, pt. 2' have been combined into a singular album called 'Love is Hell'. This is the format artist Ryan Adams intended his work to be presented to his fans; as a complete album. The tracklisting of the 'Love is Hell' LP keeps the same order that the EPs held. The record is dropped today, May 4th, in Canada and the U.S.

'Love is Hell' was originally split into two discs at Adams' record company's request. They felt it was much too dark a record, and encouraged him to come up with something more cheerful. Adams then presented the execs with 'Rock N Roll', a record full of songs that removed him from his usual alt.country style. 'Rock N Roll' was panned by most critics and fans; it was not what they were expecting from Adams.

Most diehard fans seem to prefer the music of 'Love is Hell', as do the critics. This might be because the record is truer to Adams' artistic vision. Or it could just be that 'Love is Hell' contains a cover of Oasis' 'Wonderwall' that people actually like whereas most covers are unbearable. Whatever the reason, the album that was never intended by Lost Highway records as a commercial release is the one making the biggest waves.

'Love is Hell' tracklisting is as follows:

'Political Scientist'
'Afraid Not Scared'
'This House Is Not For Sale'
'Anybody Wanna Take Me Home'
'Love Is Hell'
'Wonderwall'
'The Shadowlands'
'World War 24'
'Avalanche'
'My Blue Manhattan'
'Please Do Not Let Me Go'
'City Rain, City Streets'
'I See Monsters'
'English Girls Approximately'
'Thank You Louise'
'Hotel Chelsea Nights'
