Josh Groban To Tour Canada

Published: 2004-04-30
Opera wonder Josh Groban will make the long journey to the great white north this summer. The extensive North American tour will only stop in four Canadian cities, all located in the west. Tickets to see the singer won't come too cheaply however; the prices range from $49.50 to $89.50.

Most people think of classical performers as rather large men and women who are well past their fortieth birthdays. Groban, however, is a scant 23 years old (he's actually younger than both Justin Timberlake and Jessica Simpson) and has a body more akin to Jagger than Pavarotti. Obviously his music career took quite a different direction from either of the pop superstars mentioned above. This is in large part due to David Foster.

Foster, a native Canadian (he's from Victoria, B.C., to be exact), first met the powerhouse through his friend, who just happened to be Groban's vocal coach. Foster then went on to use Josh as a rehearsal singer, which had Groban rehearsing with Celine Dion in place of Andrea Bocelli for the Grammy's -- when he was only 18. That moment could be called the beginning of an amazing journey for Josh Groban.

After he wowed those who watched him perform with Dion (including Dion herself), Groban went on to amaze the viewers of T.V. show Ally McBeal, performing live onscreen, gaining himself an even wider audience. Offering himself as an alternative representation for his generation, Groban is showing the world that you can, in fact, make a career in showbiz based on talent. So far he has sold more than 5 million records and counting.

One of Groban's first singles was 'To Where You Are', a song that is surely now one of the top tearjerkers played at funerals across the continent. He has currently released two albums, the most recent being 'Closer' which was dropped in November of last year. Groban's current single is titled 'You Raise Me Up' and can be heard on a soft rock station near you.
