Pop Montreal Acts Announced

Published: 2008-07-21
Montreal's biggest indie pop festival has announced the first round of musical acts set to play in venues around the city from October 1–5. Around since 2002 the festival isn't just about music. The Pop Montreal Symposium features panel discussions, keynote interviews, listening sessions and workshops on music and the industry. Film Pop is Pop Montreal's film fest featuring shorts and music videos, while Art Pop features the visual arts at the fest. Puces Pop is the city's largest do-it-yourself festival and celebrates independent creation of everything from knitting and fashion to indie recordings, electronics and 'zines. This year the whole family can participate in Pop Montreal with Kids Pop; programming that will connect artists with kids and encourage artistic expression.

The biggest draw is still the hundreds of concerts taking place at venues all over the city. This year already promises a diverse selection of acts including influential singer-songwriter Burt Bacharach, Broken Social Scene's Jason Collett, indie pop-sters Great Lake Swimmers and alt-country band United Steel Workers of Montreal. A full list of artists is available on the festival's official website and as usual more acts will be announced as the festival draws nearer.

Passes for the fest are available on their official website http://www.popmontreal.com for $70.
