Sir Paul McCartney Receives Honorary Doctorate Award

Published: 2008-05-28
Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney was presented with another accolade earlier this week when Yale University granted him an honorary doctorate in their name. McCartney received the Doctor of Music degree on the Connecticut campus of the university while the school's band played The Beatles' hit "Hey Jude" in the background. McCartney was among seven other recipients of honorary degrees at Monday's ceremony, which also recognized and awarded over 3,000 Yale students with their degree at the same time.

Last June, McCartney came out with his most recent solo album, entitled Memory Almost Full. This past February, the British singer-songwriter received a BRIT award for his outstanding contribution to music at the 2008 BRIT Awards ceremony, which is similar to awards that recognize Lifetime Achievement. The 65-year-old Liverpool native has been involved in music since 1957 in bands such as The Quarry Men, the aforementioned Beatles, and Wings. The multi-talented singer is also involved in record production, film production and animal rights activism. In the Guinness World Records, McCartney is listed as the most successful composer-musician in the history of popular music.
