David Cook Wins American Idol

American Idol number seven was announced on Tuesday night and it is David Cook. Prior to American Idol, Cook was the lead singer of the band Axium that was chosen Best Band in Kansas City in 2004, but broke up in 2006.

The pop-rocker auditioned for American Idol in Omaha, Nebraska on a whim singing Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer". Cook continued to pick rock songs throughout the competition singing tunes like Switchfoot's "Dare You To Move", Our Lady Peace's "Innocent", and The Who's "Baba O'Riley".

In the finale he sung U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", Collective Soul's "The World I Know" and "Dream Big". He took the title of American Idol with 12 million more votes than runner up David Archuleta despite Idol judge Simon Cowell touting Archuleta during the previous show.

Cook's debut single "Time Of My Life" is already the top selling tune on iTunes.
