Arcade Fire Contributing to Soundtrack for 'The Box' Movie

Published: 2008-05-14
Montreal indie group Arcade Fire will be recording the soundtrack to the motion picture The Box, which is being directed by Richard Kelly of "Donnie Darko" fame. The Box is currently in its editing stages, with a tentative theatrical release slated for late 2008. Cameron Diaz and James Marsden star in the science fiction/horror film. The film tracks a suburban couple with a young child who receive a simple wooden box as a gift as a mysterious stranger delivers the message that the box promises to bestow it's owner with $1 million with the press of a button. The catch is, by pressing the button and receiving the million, someone else in the world dies randomly. With just 24 hours to decide, the couple find themselves in a moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.

Arcade Fire are working in their homeland with Markus Dravs, who also produced the soon-to-be-released Coldplay record, Viva La Vida. The musical collectives last album of original material was their sophomore record, Neon Bible, released last year and debuted at the number 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. They finished their extensive tour in support of the disc this past February and have no plans to tour for the rest of the year.
