Time To Say Goodbye To Guided By Voices

Published: 2004-04-27
Regretfully it has been announced that one of the most influential indie bands has decided to call it quits after 20 years. American band Guided By Voices will release their final album on August 14th. The record is called 'Half Smiles Of The Decomposed' and is the band's fifteenth studio album; a great feat that many bands never experience.

Although the line-up of the band has changed countless times, the music Guided By Voices produces always remains the same: inventive while listenable at the same time. In other words, GBV's music is simply good. They may never have been at the top of the record sales chart, but that is certainly no way to measure Guided By Voices impact on the indie scene. Constantly name dropped by those in the know, GBV's albums can be found in the record collections of countless hipsters from all around the world.

Many people may know Guided By Voices best as the band the Strokes compete against during a friendly game of Family Feud in the video 'Someday'. That video may have been as close to the mainstream GBV has ever ventured. In addition to having them appear in their video, the Strokes count Guided By Voices as one of their favourite bands.

Guided By Voices also gave us some of the best album titles that have ever been released. 'Earthquake Glue', 'Devil Between My Toes' and 'Isolation Drills' are just a few examples of GBV's inventive and highly amusing titles. The world will miss their music, their titles and so much more.
