Canadian singer Nelly Furtado has announced that she will play a free acoustic show in Toronto to support the Australian-and-now-international campaign to save energy called Earth Hour. The event invites people to switch off unnecessary electrical equipment and technology for 60 minutes on the 29th of March at 8pm in a symbolic effort to raise awareness for the changing climate of our environment.

Earth Hour began in Australia in 2007 but it has now expanded to include 24 cities around the world. The participating Canadian cities are Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal, Kelowna, Calgary, and Toronto.

Furtado is the first Canadian Earth Hour Ambassador and will hence perform in Nathan Phillips Square at the end of the month. It is said that recyclable energy will be used to throughout the event, in which, according to Citynews, "Canada is leading the way with more than 20,000 people, 1, 000 businesses and 50 cities signed-up so far".
