This past Sunday, February 10th, the 50th Grammy Awards ceremony took place at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California. The big winners that night were Amy Winehouse and Kanye West, with 5 and 4 awarda, respectively. Winehouse was recognized for her work on her Back to Black album for categories such as Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal, while West was awarded the Grammys for Rap Album, Rap Performance and Rap Song for his Graduation disc.
The Foo Fighters took home awards for Best Rock Album and Best Hard Rock Performance for last year's Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, while The White Stripes got Grammys for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Alternative Music Album.
As for the Canadians nominated at the award ceremony: Michael Bublé won for his disc, Call Me Irresponsible, in Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, while Joni Mitchell won for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for the single, "One Week Last Summer", from her Shine record. James Ehnes, a violinist from Manitoba, received honours in the Best Instrumental Soloist Performance. Unfortunately, Feist, who was nominated in four categories, Nelly Furtado in 3 and Arcade Fire for 1 did not take home any Grammys that night.
Performances broadcast live on CBS television included those by Tina Turner and Beyoncé, West with house duo Daft Punk and the Foo Fighters.
