The nominees for the 2008 Juno Awards were made known yesterday, with the top contender in 6 categories being Quebec's Celine Dion. A close second at 5 nods each were Avril Lavigne (Napanee, Ontario), Michael Bublé (Vancouver) and Feist (Toronto), while Blue Rodeo, Arcade Fire and Finger Eleven received 3 nominations.
The ceremony, which recognizes the best in Canadian music, will take place on April 6th in Calgary, Alberta. It will be hosted by comedian Russell Peters and broadcast live on CTV.
Dion is nominated for her latest record, Taking Chances, for Album of the Year (twice in the same category), Fan Choice, Artist of the Year, Francophone Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year. Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing, Feist's The Reminder, and Bublé's Call Me Responsible are the latest works from those artists that allowed them to receive nominations in 5 different categories this year.
In the New Artist category, Jeremy Fisher, Justin Nozuka, Serena Ryder, Suzie McNeil and Belly are nominated, while Wintersleep, State of Shock, illScarlett, Faber Drive and Dragonette are to be found nominated for Best New Group.
