Oscar Peterson Tribute Concert Next Week in Toronto

Late Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson will be paid homage next week in Toronto with a concert that is being put on in his name.

The musical show will take place on the 12th of January at the Roy Thomson Hall for the native Montrealer and its organizers include Bob Rae, ex-premier of the province of Ontario, Brian Robertson, ex-chair of the Canadian Recording Arts Industry Association and Peter Herrndorf, head of the National Arts Centre.

"Oscar Peterson Simply the Best" will have performances by Measha Brueggergosman and numerous choirs, as well as speeches by Governor General Micha'lle Jean and Peterson family friend Rae, in addition to showing film footage from the great musician's discography.

The free event will be open to the public as well as broadcast on CBC Radio One at 4pm. Peterson passed away not too long ago on the 23rd of December 2007.
