The Annual American Shortlist Music Prize nominations were announced this week with a total of 54 nominations. Three of the acts are Canadian and later on in the year, the long list will be brought down to 10 finalists for consideration for the award.

The prize is given to an album released in the United States in the past year and chosen by the "Listmakers", a group of music-related individuals such as musicians, journalists and producers.

Feist's album The Reminder, Arcade Fire's Neon Bible and In Our Bedroom after the War by Stars are the Canadian records in the running this year, among the albums from 8 other countries that have been selected. Musicians, DJs and radio hosts such as Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol and Chris Douridas, DJ for KCRW, were among the people choosing the nominees. The date for announcing the final winner has not yet been determined.

Other nominees include Bjork's Volta, Iron & Wine's The Shepard's Dog, Peter Bjorn and John's Writers Block and The Hives' Sky Blue Sky. A complete list of long list nominees can be found at: http://www.shortlistofmusic.com.
