Chantal Kreviazuk Returns from Visit in Ethiopia with War Child Canada

Published: 2007-11-14
Canadian musician, Chantal Kreviazuk, has returned from her recent trip to Ethiopia with War Child Canada to help raise awareness about the African AIDS crisis and the many orphans who have lost their parents to AIDS. On her trip she was inspired by the children whom she met and who were left to provide for and raise their younger siblings alone.

"I return from Ethiopia overwhelmed by what I have witnessed. I found a country trying to recover from years of conflict, now devastated by the terrible curse of the AIDS pandemic. But I am also filled with a sense of hope. I feel empowered to know that my support of War Child Canada's work makes an incredible difference. Development really does work - every dollar we can raise will transform the lives of the children I met. It is my profound hope that my experiences in Ethiopia will inspire others to donate and ensure that this incredible project can not only continue but grow exponentially. If we want to change the world, this is where we start."

In an effort to address some of the challenges faced by these young heads of households, War Child Canada, with funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), provides several hundred children in child-headed households with basic needs including food and shelter, access to education and health care, skills training, counseling and recreational programs, as well as community-based HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
