Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman Speaks Out on California Wildfire Tragedy

Published: 2007-10-26
Jon Foreman, frontman of San Diego band Switchfoot recently commented about the tragedy of the wildfires that have destroyed parts of his hometown San Diego and other areas in California:

"Hi all, It's been a crazy week, so hard to be away from the ones you love in a crisis like this. A big chunk of my hometown of San Diego burned down this week. A strange birthday present indeed [Foreman's 31st birthday was on Oct 22}. Thank you for all of your support and prayers.

In a week filled with such dark news from home, I have found a few really bright spots.
A. Being out on a tour that gives a buck a ticket to Habitat for Humanity, (an organization that builds homes for people who need them) has never felt more appropriate. Please get involved:

B. Playing a song called "Rebuild" that Matt Thiessen and I wrote for Habitat a few hours before his bus burned down has never felt more appropriate.

C. Seeing my hometown really come together and help each other has been great. I'm sure everyone has a certain amount of pride in their hometown, to see my hometown neighbors helping each other out in an awful situation means so much to me.

So, thanks for taking care of my family and my hometown while I'm gone." – Jon
