Top 100 Canadian Albums Book Released Today

Published: 2007-10-18
New Brunswick CBC reporter, Bob Mersereau is releasing his book The Top 100 Canadian Albums today (Oct 18) via Goose Lane Editions. Mersereau wanted to ensure Canadian music wasn't left out of the mix, as he had seen books about the top British and American music, but not many, if any, about the top albums in Canada. He embarked to compose a book of the best, as per a variety of different Canadian music industry professionals, such as Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea, Saturday Night Blues host Holger Peterson and Soul Shine Magazine's own Managing Director Lindsay Whitfield.

The Top 100 albums listed is bound to get people exploring Canadian music and conversing about what their top 100 would be and how it compares to the lists in the book. Aside from the various listings from the music industry and the top 100, there are also excellent visuals in photography and design to stir the senses.

The entire top 100 features 8 Neil Young albums, but ZERO Celine Dion albums. The author says: "I wanted to be sure that it reflected popularity". Considering that Dion has sold more albums than any other Canadian artist, you wonder what kind of agenda the author of this book has, as there is no mention of Celine Dion but Neil Young has 8 albums. This is like making a top 100 most popular albums ever and exclude Elvis, Beatles and Michael Jackson, but feature the entire catalog of Nirvana.

Not a Celine fan
