Franz Ferdinand Returns To North America

Published: 2004-04-20
Franz Ferdinand has been a very busy band of late. Though that's to be expected when you explode the way they have. The band has already crossed the pond to play shows here in North America, including an over packed performance at SXSW where many fans had to be turned away at the door, and they're coming back for more. Franz Ferdinand will begin their next North American tour early in June. The 15 dates on the tour include only one Canadian stop, June 14 in Toronto at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.

Franz's current hectic schedule and new title of 'the next Big Thing' came about for them the way it does for most other British bands: the summer festivals. Glastonbury, T in the Park, and the Reading and Leeds festivals have been the launch pad for many successful bands including the likes of the Darkness, Coldplay and even Oasis. This is exactly what happened to Franz Ferdinand when they found themselves performing at their native Scotland's T in the Park.

After the band was unearthed during the summer of 2003 the amount of gigs they played increased dramatically from just a few dates a month to non-stop stretches of more than 10 days without a break. This is where the members of Franz Ferdinand find themselves now; in a state of constant touring that began in the summer of last year. Most of the recent dates the band has scheduled have sold out in increasingly shorter periods of time, so if you're planning to catch them when they come to Toronto, don't hesitate on buying your tickets early because if you do, they will be gone.
