Polaris Prize Awarded to Patrick Watson

Published: 2007-09-26
The Canadian award known as the Polaris Music Prize was given out Monday night to none other than Montreal's own Patrick Watson.

The odds were in the favour of Montrealers this year, as half of the 10 nominees was from the Quebec city. Montreal rivals that Watson beat out with his 2006 sophomore record, Close to Paradise, include Neon Bible from the Arcade Fire and The Dears' Gang of Losers. Watson was also up against other indie Canadian acts that made waves this past year such as Feist, The Besnard Lakes and Miracle Fortress.

As recipient of the Polaris Prize, Watson is entitled to a $20,000 cash prize. The ceremony was broadcast live this past Monday on CBC Radio 3 and the voters consisted of jury members from all walks of the Canadian music industry, including broadcasters, journalists and bloggers.
