Jeff Healey Battles Cancer, Continues Recording

Published: 2007-09-20
Toronto blues guitarist Jeff Healey is still fighting the disease that took his sight at childhood, cancer. Healey's cancer stems from retino blastoma, but despite his ongoing chemotherapy he is working on two different recording projects and continuing with his Monday evening radio show "My Kinda Jazz" on JazzFM in Toronto.

The two albums are a jazz recording for Stony Plain Records and the other a blues CD for Ruf Records in Germany. "I have great confidence in the doctors who are working with me," Healey says. "I'm doing everything I can to keep busy while my doctors and I fight the good fight. Keeping my various projects on the go is as important to my health as are the treatments."

Healey is still scheduled to perform at the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope, Ontario to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society on October 19. For more information on Jeff Healey please visit http://www.jeffhealey.com.

Hi, I just wanted to pass along my best wishes to Jeff and his family. I have heard so little in the media since his last surgery! My husband, son and I are loyal fans and have seen Jeff in many guises here in Edmonton over the years. From the Thunderdome, to Red's and the Arden in St. Albert, blues, rock, big band: we love Jeff Healey! Best wishes, always, David, Laura and Brady Niven from Edmonton.
