Kanye West Tops Billboard Album Charts This Week

Rapper Kanye West will top the Billboard Album charts this week, ending the much hyped about album media blitz between him and rapper 50 Cent. 50 Cent's Curtis, which still sold 603,000 copies, bows in at the number two position. The over-publicized dispute was whether West or 50 Cent will dominate the charts this week, both releasing albums on the same day last week.

50 Cent claimed he would retire from the music industry if his record debuted at number two, but that all changed when he went on air to discuss the matter on New York's Hot 97 radio station on September 13. Instead of retiring, he mentioned that his record company, G-Unit, would release albums on the same day as Def Jam's from here on out.

Debuting in at number three was Kenny Chesney's Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates with 232,000 copies sold thus far.
