CN Tower No Longer World's Tallest Building

Published: 2007-09-13
Toronto, Canada's CN Tower has been said to be the world's tallest building for 30 years, but this week sources found that a structure called the Burj Dubai is under contruction which will be 800 metres high, surpassing CN Tower's 553.33 metres. The Burj Dubai will be a glamourous hotel, residential and commercial building built by Dubai, United Arab Emirates for $4.1 billion US.

The Guinness World Records had called the CN Tower the world's tallest free-standing structure and the world's tallest building, which has kept tourism strong and happening in Ontario's capital. However, The Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat have said that a building must be designed for residential, business or manufacturing use and therefore say Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was actually the world's tallest building during what was thought to be the CN Tower's reign. Whichever the experts say, the Burj Dubai has now surpassed them both and is now the tallest building in the world.
