M.I.A. to Deliver Eclectic, Socially Charged Album

Published: 2007-08-10
Singer-songwriter M.I.A. plans on releasing a new album called Kala on August 21. The singer told MTV news that this CD will be a bit more eclectic than the critics' favourite Arular. The new album touches on the third world, global, and sexual politics.

M.I.A. suggests that an album be like a movie. "If you make an album, it should be like a film, it should be a contained thing."
The whole process leading up to touring for this album was an unusual one as she was locked out of the U.S. Department of State for most of the past year. That didn't slow M.I.A. down one bit as that fueled her angst to write down more emotional lyrics about her experience.

M.I.A.'s new album, Kala, which is named after her mother, arrives in stores August 21.
