The nominations for the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, which are set to take place on September 9th, in Las Vegas, Nevada have just been announced.
Pop entertainers Justin Timberlake and Beyonc» lead the pack with the highest number of nominations, each with seven, a few of which are in categories new this year, including "Most Earth-Shattering Collaboration", "Quadruple Threat" as well as "Artist of the Year" (Timberlake for Male and Beyonc» for Female).
Kanye West and Rihanna follow with the second most nods, at five nominations each, including the Video of the Year category - "Stronger" for West and "Umbrella" featuring Jay-Z for Rihanna. Their contenders are Timberlake with "What Goes Around...Comes Around", Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" and Justice's "D.A.N.C.E.".
The musical director of the event, taking place at the Palms Casino Resort, will be hip hop producer and artist Timbaland. Performances by Winehouse, West, Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, the Foo Fighters, Lily Allen and Chris Brown are confirmed so far.
The ceremony will be broadcast once on MTV in its original version, but, according to Billboard.com, "future versions will be remixed by and for viewers that differ substantially from the live telecast".
