Mercury Prize Nominees Revealed

The nominations for the 2007 Mercury Prize have been officially announced and among this year's nods are two repeats: indie faves the Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal.

The Nationwide Mercury Prize, as it is currently known, is an annual music award that recognizes the best UK record of the last year and was originally conceived as an alternative to the BRIT Awards. The shortlist was announced on July 17th in London at the Convent Garden and the presentation of the award will take place on September 4th.

The Polaris Prize, is the Canadian equivalent to the U.K.'s Mercury Prize, after which it is modelled.

This year's nominees are as follows:

Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future
Maps - We Can Create
The View - Hats Off To The Buskers
Jamie T - Panic Prevention
Bat For Lashes -Fur And Gold
Young Knives - Voices of Animals And Men
Fionn Regan - The End Of History
New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom
Basquiat Strings - Basquiat Strings
