Janet Jackson Signs to Island Records

Published: 2007-07-18
Pop star Janet Jackson ended her decade long career with former label Virgin Records last month and it has now been made official that Island Records will be releasing the American R&B singer's new album.

Although there is no confirmed release date (tentatively scheduled for late 2007-early 2008), Jackson's next album will be made under the supervision of LA Reid, Island/Def Jam's CEO.

The move is reminiscent of the switch made by Jermaine Dupri, Jackson's producer boyfriend, from Virgin to Island Urban, when he became president of his new label at the end of last year.

Jackson's last record of new material was 2006's 20 Y.O., which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
