American country legend Willie Nelson will be given the title of Music Icon at this year's Country Awards by Broadcast Music Inc.

The 55th Annual Country Music Awards are taking place in Nashville, Tennessee on November 6th of this year and Nelson will be honoured for his "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."

Not only has Nelson been a pioneer as a musician as he experimented with mixing genres, he has also developed a vocal style all his own as well as became well-known for a unique Latin-inspired way of playing guitar.

The 74 year old is still making music to this day, having released a two-disc album in March 2007 with fellow musicians Merle Haggard and Ray Price, entitled Last of the Breed.

Over 300,000 musicians, songwriters, performers, publishers, etc. are represented by Broadcast Music Inc. James Brown, Dolly Parton, Isaac Hayes, Crosby, Stills & Nash are among the previous winners of the Broadcast Music Inc.'s title of Music Icon.

There's only one "Willie."

I think it's great that Willie is being honored this year especially since he won countless awards thirty years ago in 1977 for his Stardust album, but what a lot of people don't know is that the CMA's don't have time to showcase their Country Music Hall of Famer's on their telecast on November 6th. If you ask me, they need to make time! You don't know where you're going if you don't remember where you have been.
