Live Earth One of Largest Global Events in History

Published: 2007-07-10
This Saturday, July 7th saw the making of history with the first ever Live Earth musical event as nine separate concerts took place all on the same day in different cities around the world.

Over 150 acts participated in the shows which aimed to raise recognition about global warming and support environmentally-friendly lifestyles. Former American vice-president Al Gore was the mastermind behind the project, who is also a major partner of the Save Our Selves (SOS) umbrella organization for the event.

Although the concerts were not free, sets from the acts were made available without a charge via internet and television broadcasting this weekend.

The first show was the Australian edition of Live Earth and the event ended with that of Antarctica. Artists and bands that graced the eleven different stages across seven different continents included newly reunited Genesis, The Police, the Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna, UB40 and Crowded House, among many others.

More information on these concerts for a climate in crisis can be found at: http://www.liveearth.org.
