George Michael First to Perform at New Wembley Stadium

Published: 2007-06-12
British pop star George Michael inaugurated the opening of the newly reconstructed Wembley Stadium near London, England this past weekend.

Michael made British musical history by being the first artist to grace the newly constructed Wembley stage on both Saturday, June 9th and Sunday, June 10th. His set list included fan favourites from both his solo career as well as classic tracks from his days as part of the duo Wham!.

Michael's two gigs at Wembley made up the U.K. part of his "25Live" Tour, which is taking place in honour of his quarter of a century spent making music.

The original Wembley Stadium became a musical venue in 1972. American hard rockers Bon Jovi were the last act to play the original Wembley Stadium before it closed for reconstruction in the year 2000.
