Franz Ferdinand Play Secret Show in Hometown of Glasgow

Published: 2007-06-06
Indie rock quartet Franz Ferdinand surprised concertgoers Monday by playing a secret gig at the Grand Ole Opry Country and Western Club in Glasgow, Scotland that featured almost half a dozen new tracks.

Seven hundred lucky fans had the pleasure of previewing five songs from the upcoming Franz Ferdinand album in the band's hometown, including "An English Goodbye", "Favourite Lie" and "Anyone in Love". The Monday night show was the first of a two-set series planned at the same venue before the group heads to New York to give American fans a sample of their new material.

The last show the band played had been eight months ago at the UK's Carling Weekend for the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Franz Ferdinand have at least one festival stop planned so far this year: they'll be playing a set at the Tennessee Bonnaroo Festival within the next few weeks.
