The Strokes Make 2007 their 'Year Off'

Published: 2007-05-29
American garage rockers The Strokes are taking a year sabbatical for 2007 from releasing any new music, the group announced via a MySpace bulletin recently.

It's only been a little over a year since their third and latest disc, First Impressions of Earth came out in January 2006 and the band was touring at length in its support. However, the quintet says they won't be making public any fresh material this year and at the very earliest fans will have to wait until 2008 if not later for anything from them.

The much-needed break at least is helping out members who are off doing their own projects, such as guitarist Albert Hammond Jr.'s touring for his solo debut, Yours to Kee, which came out in North America this past March. The Strokes' vocalist John Casablancas lent his vocals to "Sick Sick Sick", the first single from the new Queens of the Stone Age album, Era Vulgaris, which is slated for release on June 12th of this year.
