Linkin Park Hit High with 'Minutes to Midnight', Ready Summer Tour

On Billboard's 200, the alternative metal group Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight, debuted at the number one spot with the highest amount of sales so far this year when it was released last week.

The record is the Californian sextet's third full-length record, after a three-year break between their highly successful sophomore release, Meteora. According to Nielsen SoundScan, a music tracking system for the U.S. and Canada, it sold 623, 000 copies as of this past Sunday, topping the year's previous chief openings, which were Fall Out Boy's Infinity on High and Norah Jones' Not Too Late, which debuted at over 200, 000 copies less than that of Linkin Park.

Minutes to Midnight began sales at number one in various European countries as well as in Japan and South Africa this week. It is a slower, more melodic album in comparison to the more aggressive, rap-inspired tone of the band's previous records, and its release was delayed several times because the members couldn't decide which songs to choose for the final cut. The album has also been released with a special edition DVD, containing an art book and inside looks at the making of the disc.

Linkin Park will be starting their tour called Projekt Revolution in support of their new album at the end of July.
