Oregon 12-piece band Pink Martini released their third full-length album last week on Tuesday, May 15th, called Hey Eugene!
Formed in 1994, Pink Martini straddle diverse genres with their music, such as jazz, classical, latin and world, offering a smooth blend of pop music that has appeared quite often in films and television programs. For instance, movies such as Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Josie and the Pussycats as well as TV shows The Sopranos and The West Wing have featured Pink Martini songs in the past.
Hey Eugene! is composed of twelve tracks - one of which, "Bukra wba'do", which means "Tomorrow and the Day After", is sung in Arabic. This album, plus all of Pink Martini's previous ones, which are Sympathique in 1997 and Hang On Little Tomato in 2004, have been released by the band's own record label, Heinz Records.
Pink Martini, who perform their live shows either by themselves or with an orchestra, will start touring in mid-June in the States in support of their latest disc and they will also stop by some Canadian cities, most notably for the Festival International de Jazz de MontrČal (Montreal International Jazz Festival) at the end of that month.
Pink Martini Canadian dates announced so far:
June 27, Ottawa, ON - International Jazz Fest
June 29, Montreal, QC - Salle Wilfrid Pelletier
June 30, Quebec, QC - Grand Theatre
