Super Sweet 16 Film Goes For Eternal Riches

Published: 2007-05-18
MTV's My Super Sweet 16 show may be a network hit, but the new fictionalized film based on the show is the one turning heads. The MTV show, for those who haven't tuned in, follows the blueprint of a girl planning her sweet 16 birthday party and taking it to a fanatical extreme.

One of the stars of the fictionalized film version is AJ Michalka, best known as a member of the popular teen band Aly & AJ. Michalka told MTV of the film, "[the film] is very different because I think there's a lot more morality in the movie÷I think the fact that the kids [in the movie] realize what they're doing is wrong is good."

The film goes from the girls thinking fashion and money is everything to watching their characters focus on others instead and help mend the fabric of LA where the homeless and stock brokers collide.

Regina Kelly, the film's other lead says, ""I think [the film's] a good thing because if MTV only had the TV show, then it would [be putting out this message] that [thinking only of yourself] was the right thing," she concluded."[Instead] this film shows that this is what you want to reach for."
