Wilco Singer Enters Rehab

Published: 2004-04-08
Jeff Tweedy, frontman for the alt.country band Wilco, has entered rehab in an attempt to end an addiction to painkillers. Last week, with the support of his band, Tweedy entered a clinic in his home state of Illinois.

Tweedy originally turned to the painkillers to help relieve symptoms of the notoriously violent migraines he has suffered from for many years. The horrible effects of Tweedy's long battle with migraines are shown in the 2002 documentary focused on Wilco, 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart'. In a scene taking place during the mixing of the band's fourth album 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot', Tweedy is shown in a bathroom vomiting as a result of the immense pain caused by a migraine. Jeff Tweedy sought a solution to a problem that has plagued him for most of his life, and ended up with a much bigger one.

This unfortunate event has caused Wilco to push back the release of their fifth album 'A Ghost Is Born'. Originally scheduled to drop on June 8th, the album is now to be released on June 22nd. Wilco's new record is being released on Nonesuch Records, the label that picked the band up after Warner dropped them from their roster during the making of 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot'. Much to Warner's dismay, 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' turned out to be the most commercially successful album the band has put out to date.

There has been no indication that Tweedy's admittance to rehab will affect Wilco's plans to tour. The twelve date tour hits only American cities, including a performance at Coachella.

For fans that cannot wait until June 22nd to hear Wilco's newest effort 'A Ghost Is Born', the album is available for preview on Wilco's site at www.wilcoworld.net.

The track listing is:
1. At Least That's What You Said

6. Handshake Drugs
7. Wishful Thinking
