Hold Steady Take us to the Ball Game

Published: 2007-04-03
Hold Steady has a pure passion; a passion for music and baseball. Lead singer, Craig Finn's favourite team is the Minnesota Twins. He may reside in Brooklyn, New York today, but he was raised right outside of Minneapolis.

Not only is Craig's love of baseball believable onstage through his appearance (t-shirts supporting the Twins) but also his little speeches about, the capability of Johan Santana. Craig spoke to MTV of his love of the game, "If anyone's ever been to one of our shows, I'm always shooting my mouth off about the Twins, so people know what team I'm for. I mean, when [Twins first baseman Justin] Morneau was named the Major League Baseball American League MVP last year in New York, they thought it was an outrage, and I had a lot to say about that when we'd play there until some shoes started coming onstage, that is."

All his talk paid off. Craig was contacted through the man who chooses the play list for when the players are off the field. Craig explained to MTV what the outcome is, "He thought it would be cool for us to record 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game'. He was like; I'm going to be playing your record, so it'd be cool if you guys could do this. It was all unofficial, but we decided we should do it."

The newly recorded "Take Me Out to the Ball" game was played April 2, Twins vs. Baltimore Orioles.
