Babyshambles Bassist Drew McConnell Rocks Against Racism

Published: 2007-04-02
Babyshambles bassist, Drew McConnell has gathered his musician friends including his own band to fight back musically against sneak attacks of racism from the British National Party (BNP). The BNP's constitution says it, "stands for the preservation of the national and ethnic character of the British people and is wholly opposed to any form of racial integration between British and non-European peoples."

On McConnell's side for the project against such racism is The View, Lupe Fiasco, Dirty Pretty Things, Albert Hammond Jr. and more. The artist will record a CD to counter act the BNP and other racist groups who have been putting disheartening messages in their recordings.

The idea came to McConnell once he reached the point of enough is enough. He heard about a group of bands that have planned to give out their CD's for free to students outside their very own schools. McConnell feels as though a counter action is necessary, "The manifesto for the CD is that multicultural Britain should be celebrated. Immigration is not to blame for unemployment or housing problems, and does not negatively affect the economy. The British National Party tells us this is the case. We want them to know they're not fooling us."

The culturally accepting CD will be released this summer.
