U2 frontman Bono was knighted yesterday (March 29) by the British Empire.
In the home of British Ambassador David Reddaway in Dublin, Bono (aka Paul Hewson) was presented the title "Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" for his contributions to both music and humanitarian causes.
However Bono isn't entitled to the pronoun 'Sir' because he isn't a citizen of the UK or a British Commonwealth Country. But according to CNN he joked, "You have permission to call me anything you want -- except sir, all right? Lord of lords, your demigodness, that'll do."
Bono's wife Ali and their four children, Jordan, Eve, Elijah and John as well as U2 bandmates The Edge and Adam Clayton were in attendance.
