Paul McCartney Signs to New Starbucks Label

Published: 2007-03-22
Former Beatle Paul McCartney has officially become the first artist to sign to Starbucks' new record label Hear Music.

Though they're best known for serving up lattes and frappuccinos Starbucks has dabbled in the music business in the past selling CDs in their coffee shops and even offering exclusive releases of albums by the likes of Bob Dylan and Alanis Morissette.

The new label is a joint effort between Starbucks and Concord Music Group, according to Billboard, "Starbucks will primarily handle A&R for the collaborative initiative, while Concord will head up marketing, promotion and distribution of the label's product outside the coffee shops. The Hear Music name has been used since 1999 for compilations and co-releases at Starbucks; it will now apply exclusively to this partnership."

McCartney's first album on Hear Music is due out in June and will be the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2005 album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.
