Albert Hammond Jr. Can't Stop

Published: 2007-03-07
A break out star has emerged from The Strokes, Albert Hammond Jr. The band has decided to take a break after what seems like endless recording, endless promoting and endless touring. Yet Albert is not weighed down by all this, only fueled more. The man can't stop.

March 6th was the release date for his solo album, Yours to Keep. In rocking out solo Hammond felt some pressure. To help him through his doubtful process he turned to lead singer of the Cars, Ric Ocasek. Hammond told Vh1 recently, "I played him some songs, and he said, I never knew you were such a great songwriter. He also said that I'd be doing this forever and I was like I love you. He's only one of my biggest idols, and it was nice to hear it from someone who had nothing to gain, telling me he like my songs."

Not only did Hammond receive help for this old time hero but from some close comrades. Friends on the LP include, Sean Lennon, Ben Kweller, Fountains of Wayne member Jody Porter, Sammy James Jr. from The Mooney Suzuki and of course his own frontman Julian Casablancas.

As of now this is the best project for Hammond due to the fact that his band, The Strokes announced that as of now there, "are no plans at the moment" to work on a follow-up disc. Hammond has many interesting opportunities coming up from him. Until March 21 he is headlining his own mini-tour and then he will meet up with Bloc Party to be their opening act until March 31. And then he ends his stint by performing as the musical guest for Conan O'Brien on April 6th.
