Adam Duritz Starts Record Label

Published: 2007-02-19
Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz has started his own record label Tyrannosaurus Records or T-Recs.

According to the label's official website, "Tyrannosaurus Records was not part of Adam Duritz's game plan. Duritz had built a record label early in his career (E Pluribus Unum, later bought by Geffen Records) and had no intention of starting a second one. To boot, Counting Crows was working on their next album - there were more songs to write, a tour to plan, and lives to lead., And then he heard the music".

The music was by New York rapper Notar that Duritz says, "As a lyricist himself, Duritz was blown away by the subtle and complex writing of the gritty 26 year-old". The other is pop punk band Blacktop Mourning. Duritz discovered both bands on the ubiquitous online community MySpace.

Duritz describes T-Recs as an intimate boutique label saying "We are in the studio with the bands, talking to them constantly about their careers and their music. We handle everything in-house and we're taking on a very limited number of artists so that each band gets personal attention."

As well as being in studio with his artists Duritz is also in studio with his Counting Crows bandmates working on a follow up to the band's 2002 studio album Hard Candy. The working title of the new record is Saturday Night, Sunday Morning
