Live Earth Draws Top Acts

Published: 2007-02-16
Likely noticing the success of Live 8 at mobilizing people for a cause, a group of environmental activists led by former American Vice President Al Gore announced plans for a series of concerts this summer with top acts helping to bring money and awareness of global warming effects.

The concerts will kick off the new Save Our Selves (SOS) - campaign for a climate in crisis. Dubbed Live Earth concerts will be held on all seven continents. Acts announced by Reuters and the Associated Press include a bevy of musical heavyweights including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, Duran Duran the Black Eyed Peas, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Snoop Dogg, Bon Jovi and John Mayer.

According to the Associated Press, "Promoters said the Live Earth concerts will take place in Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; London and cities to be announced in Japan, Brazil and the United States. One concert will take place in Antarctica, Gore said."

"Proceeds will create a foundation to combat climate change led by The Alliance for Climate Protection, which is chaired by Gore."
