Mamas and the Papas, who were famous for hits like "California Dreamin'" and "Monday, Monday" celebrated the life of the second last surviving member, Halifax born Denny Doherty on January 27.

The last surviving member of the Mamas and the Papas, Michelle Phillips, told the hundreds of people who came for the service that, "Denny had a blisteringly funny sense of humour - that mad Irish charm, that intelligence - that drew people to him for lifeÖbecause once you were friends with Denny, you were friends forever."

Cass Elliot died in 1974 at the age of 30 from a heart attack. John Phillips, the group's chief songwriter, died in 2001 at 65. Doherty, who was 66, died January 19 at his home in Mississauga, after suffering complications from surgery last month for an aneurysm in his abdomen.
