Talking Heads, David Byrne Strikes Out On His Own

Published: 2004-04-01
Best known as the frontman for the Talking Heads, David Byrne is going solo for his latest tour. Byrne has just released a new album "Grown Backwards" and is planning a tour to support the album and showcase his talents as a solo performer.

The album title "Grown Backwards" refers to Byrne's song writing methods. Normally Byrne starts with a groove or textures and adds the tunes later. This time round he hummed melodies into a tape recorder first and later created the rest of the song. The result is a 15 track album with eleven original tunes. Two of the songs on the album are opera arias. Canadian native Rufus Wainwright appears on one of the arias "Au Fond Du Temple Saint".

Byrne's 25 city tour begins on May 12 in Buffalo, New York. A Montreal show on May 25 is the only Canadian show scheduled.
