Relient K gets ready to release Fifth album

Published: 2007-01-04
It's been a few year's since 2004's mmHmm hit the shelves. As of now the band is getting ready to release their 5th album, which has a heavy title to drag around, Five Score and Seven Years Ago.

If the title sounds familiar it's because it was taken from Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address. The title and the album itself do not reflect anything about the late President or his time in charge. People keep saying it's a concept album, because of the title and the fact that you will find a song about the assassination at Ford's theatre. These two reasonings don't help the assumptions. Frontman Matt Thiessen explained to Vh1 that the title is not what it seems, "I mean, the significance of the title is that it's our fifth album and our last album came out seven years ago. And now we have five guys in the band. So we just thought it would be fitting or something."

The new album is being produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance). As the band matures their sound changes accordingly. The new album has the same mentality as most Relient K discs but you will find more instrumental pieces thrown throughout the tracks. And they have added an array of instruments to their recording process such as piano, banjo and lap steel.

Their first single being released is a love song entitled, "Must Have Done Something Right".
