DJ Danger Mouse Leads Underground Animals

Published: 2007-01-02
DJ Danger Mouse is collaborating with a slew of other animals in 2007 for the animated music project the Underground Animals.

Brian Joseph Burton AKA Danger Mouse rose to fame on the back of his legendary mash-up album the Grey Album which combined Jay Z's Black Album with the Beatle's White Album to create the textbook album for album mash-ups.

In 2005 he produced the second Gorillaz album Demon Days which earned him a Grammy nod for producer of the year. This year he and rapper Cee-Lo came together to form the ever-experimental duo Gnarls Barkley who's hit single "Crazy" graced top 40 charts all over the world.

So far his newest project the Underground Animals has been shrouded in secrecy revealing only that the project will be an animated project similar to the Gorillaz with each of the producers on the record taking on an alter animated ego with a "robust" back story.

The record will be released by Downtown Records and co-founder Josh Deutsch told Billboard.com, that for the first album each song will feature different producer working with a different artists, "There will be an element of mystery about it -- certain producers will be retired," he continues. "And many of these people are some of the most famous producers out there. It will allow them to produce the kinds of records they wouldn't necessarily want to do without the benefit of a pseudonym. We've already had a really A-list rock guy wanting to do a hip-hop record."

Next year Danger Mouse may also release another Gnarls Barkley album, but meanwhile the current one St. Elsewhere will be up for multiple Grammys this February.
