Grammys Honour Lifetime Achievers

The Doors and the Grateful Dead are just two of the bands being honoured with lifetime achievement awards at this year's Grammy ceremonies.

According to the Grammy website, "The Lifetime Achievement Award honors lifelong artistic contributions to the recording medium".

This year's recipients include controversial sixties rockers the Doors (John Densmore, Bobby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, and Jim Morrison), psychedelic jam band the Grateful Dead (Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir), interpretive folk singer Joan Baez, Stax Record's house band Booker T & the MG's (Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, *Al Jackson, Booker T. Jones, and Lewie Steinberg), classical Italian musician Maria Callas, jazz saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman, and western swing musician Bob Willis.

The awards will be doled out the day prior to the televised awards show on February 11 in Los Angeles.
