Final Fantasy, Meligrove Band Play Brampton Indie Fest

Published: 2006-12-11
Two things you'd least associate with a music festival are the dead of winter and the suburbs, but that's exactly when and where the Brampton Indie Arts Festival will occur this February 14 - 17.

Taking place at the Rose Theatre in Brampton, the festival has attracted an array of independent musicians and filmmakers from around the country. In the past artists like Ron Sexsmith, The Rheostatics and Sook-Yin Lee have all graced the stage.

This year's lineup will have just as many high points with local indie rockers the Diableros and London Ontario's Raised by Swans taking the stage on the first day, which will conclude with a performance by Canadian pop singer-songwriter and 2005's Canadian Music Week Artist of the Year, Andy Kim.

Day two will feature artists like dd/mm/yyyy, the bicycles, Mississauga's own Meligrove Band and a headlining performance by singer-songwriter Marc Ribot. Day three will have artists like Kids on TV, Jon Rae and the River as well as classical guitarist Jeffrey McFadden. Finally the festival will close up with alternative country trio Elliott Brood, the band Patrick Watson and Final Fantasy.

Along with the music, there will also be some slam poetry, films and artists like Governor General Award winner Istvan Kantor.
