U2 have now officially been dethroned as the top grossing national touring act. The Rolling Stones now own the top grossing tour in history for their A Bigger Bang Tour.
The Stones' tour raked in $437 million in revenue and have drawn 3.5 million people to their shows since the fall of 2005, thus, shattering U2's Vertigo Tour by a landslide. (U2 previously held the record at $333 million.) The Stones might just extend their tour into 2007, thus a final gross of $500 million will be expected.
The tour has been noted as one of the longest as well. A Bigger Bang started in August 21st, 2005 and possibly could end next year. The tour has covered 55 shows in North America in total, 19 in Europe, 5 in Japan, 1 in China, 2 in Australia, and 2 shows in New Zealand, thus making this tour a truly global phenomenon.
