Kimberly Locke Makes A Hit With '8th World Wonder'

Published: 2004-03-26
Kimberly Locke came in third place at last year's American Idol competition, but Locke has achieved something none of the other American Idol stars have done. Kimberly Locke's new single "8th World Wonder" debuted at number one on the Billboard singles chart. With the hit song Locke has fulfilled the dreams of two people; herself and Peterborough resident Joel Parkes, who wrote the song. Parkes is a clerk at the Attorney-General Ministry by day and songwriter by night. He sees his songwriting as an avocation and not a profession.

American Idol, which airs on (CTV in Canada) FOX in the US has secured the top spot in the ratings over the past several weeks with 30 plus million viewers. The Wednesday night show where Locke performed Parkes song "8th World Wonder" beat out the reality show "Survivor – All Stars" in the ratings. Parkes was originally skeptical of American Idol but has since changed his mind (for obvious reasons).
