Michael Jackson Sings to a Different Tune

Published: 2006-11-16
After a much anticipated performance from his 1982 mega hit "Thriller" was expected at last night's World Music Awards, Jackson surprised the crowd by instead singing a bit of "We Are the World" with a bunch of children. Jackson was presented with a Diamond Award for Thriller as it had sold 50 million copies and was celebrating its 25th anniversary. However, after "We are the World", Jackson simply threw his black jacket into the audience and exited the stage and telling reporters that a performance of "Thriller" was a misunderstanding.

The ceremony was hosted by Lindsay Lohan and also featured performances by BeyoncÈ, Mary J. Blige, and Andrea Bocelli. The World Music Awards is set to air on ABC in North America soon and in the UK on Channel 4.

it was a mis-understanding michael NEVER said he was going to do Thiller. and he only sang abit of we are the world because it had stevie wonder and bruce springsteen singing loud on the cd, michael couldn't match that by himself live. when the music stopped - he should've kept singing but its not his fault!

Oh please... MJ is well beyond his 15 minutes of fame. He is a simpering dysfunctional adult who can no longer cope with reality. Of course he disappointed everyone. The expectations of his fans were unrealistic. The moment of "Thriller" is gone. His talent is now a mere memory.

Well, there is no way I would agree with the "15 minutes of fame" comment. Michael has been around for around 40 years. I would not call that a 'flash', he had staying power. I would say he still does, if he can still whip a crowd of people into a frenzy like he did at the World Music Awards. I heard that he never said he was going to perform 'Thriller' he did say though, that he was going to perform, and was there to mark the anniversary OF Thriller. So all around a big misunderstanding. If I was there, I would have just been happy to SEE him and accept the award! That's all people knew at first, and everyone was excited about just that. Give the guy a break, he is almost 50 years old and hasn't performed live for a long time. People do get rusty, even if you are the King Of Pop.
