Nelly Furtado, Sam Roberts help cheer on the Grey Cup

Published: 2006-11-16
This weekend Winnipeg is hosting the 94th Annual Grey Cup. Though BC Lions and Montreal Alouettes fans will be out in droves, the pre-game Grey Cup Festival is set to draw some music fans out to the prairies.

Three days prior to the game, beginning November 16, a host of Canadian musicians will be playing in venues around the city.

November 16 the Winnipeg Convention Centre will host Manitoba country band Doc Walker while the MTS Centre plays host to Niagara Rockers The Trews.

The following day the Winnipeg Convention Centre will fill with Sam Roberts fans as he and his band take their smash hits to the prairies but it will be hometown boys, the Juno nominated Waking Eyes that will likely steal the show. In another part of town at Times Change(d), hometown boys Andrew Neville and the Poor Choices will bring a bit of country twang to the festival.

The day before the big game BC alternative rock veterans 54-40 and Regina Ska band Skavenjah will fill the Winnipeg Convention Centre while Toronto indie rockers The Meligrove Band and the Golden Dogs rock the Pyramid Cabaret.

On the day of the game, football won't be the only show in town as Canadian Idol Eva Avila belts out the Canadian national anthem and Nelly Furtado fills in the halftime show.
